Abstract

The Selamatan Bungko tradition in Kumalabaru Hamlet is carried out as a prayer ritual for a newly built house so that it may bring blessings, protection, and comfort to its residents. However, along with the changing times, there have been several modifications in its practice, such as shortening the duration of the burdah recitation and omitting the adhan on one of the house pillars. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with observation and interview methods, this study reveals that the Selamatan Bungko embodies several values: the value of silaturrahmi, which strengthens social relations; the value of mutual assistance, which reflects the spirit of gotong royong (communal cooperation); and the value of exemplarity derived from the recitation of qasidah burdah. Based on Émile Durkheim’s functionalism theory, this tradition also serves as a means of reinforcing social solidarity and internalizing Islamic values in community life.

Abstract: The Selamatan Bungko tradition in Kumalabaru Hamlet is one of the cultural heritages that is still maintained by the local community. This tradition is carried out in order to pray for a newly built house to get blessings, protection, and comfort for its residents. However, along with the times and the entry of the digitalization era, there have been some changes in the practice of this tradition, such as cutting the duration of the burdah recitation and removing the adhan on one of the house pillars. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observation and interview methods to explore the values of Islamic education in this tradition. The results show that Selamatan Bungko contains several Islamic educational values, namely the value of silaturrahmi that strengthens social relations, the value of helping that reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation, and the exemplary value obtained from the recitation of qasidah burdah. By using Émile Durkheim's functionalism theory, this study confirms that this tradition does not only function as a traditional ritual, but also as a means of strengthening social solidarity and internalizing Islamic values in people's lives.
